On A Hunt for Something Beautiful

Shooting for this month’s assignment could be easy, or it could be difficult. Depends on what you decide to shoot after reading the assignment details. I decided to shoot for something difficult! Chances were low that I’d find what I was looking for, but how would I know if the odds were not in my favor if I didn’t even try?!

You can choose something hard like me, or you can opt for something a little more easy. Just choose a verse of As the Deer and/or Fairest Lord Jesus, sit down with a friend to brainstorm all the things that you can think of that might illustrate that verse, jot down where and when you might find each particular “thing” you listed, and then go shoot the most fun thing on the list!

If you’re into wildlife photography, maybe you’ll have a more successful hunting excursion than I did.

If you’re into people photography, I’m sure there are a lot of ways to illustrate the themes of worship and surrender in the songs!

And if you just like taking regular nature pictures, then you could shoot something as simple as a meadow under the golden light of morning, something as intentional as a glowing afternoon sky with a starburst, or something as difficult as a moonlit night or starry sky!

Whatever you shoot, just do the best you can to illustrate the songs and make the photos as beautiful-looking as you can.

For some in-depth training on how to liven up a normal nature shot by adding the special effect of a starbust, members can watch this month’s premium training, How to Create the Starburst Effect, In-Camera!

I incorporated a starburst in a random shot I took while at the blind. I think maybe the picture could illustrate the verse that talks about “Only You can satisfy, You alone are the real joy giver”; the idea that it’s the sunlight that is making what is ugly look beautiful.

I took a few other random shots while at the blind. While I wouldn’t necessarily say they are “beautiful”, and it might take some stretching of the imagination to make them work for any of the verses in the songs, I thought I’d at least share them here since I didn’t get any photos of a deer on that shoot.

But now it’s your turn! The next step is to get the details for the Beauty in Nature assignment. To make this assignment more challenging, it is required that all your submissions must be taken during the month of March (with the exception of two, that you’re allowed to pull from your archives). 🙂 Looking forward to seeing what you come up!
