Off to Florida!
Yeah! Robert and James arrived home late last night and now our whole family is together! We had a grand Christmas celebration until the wee hours of the morning experiencing the truth of Acts 20:35 “It is more blessed to give then receive.”
After a delicious pancake breakfast, Dad started packing the van and somehow managed to make it all fit! We squeezed in ourselves and were on our way!
At about 5:00 the snow was coming down very hard and we came to a complete stop in traffic without knowing why – probably an accident. And here we are with Christmas music softly playing and the snow swiftly falling and all of us cozy and warm inside.
This is definitely an unusual Christmas! We’ve never had time just to sit in the car like this! We are definitely breaking tradition. At first we thought “Well,we could do this at home!” But then we thought about how we wouldn’t – because we don’t have time. We are treasuring our time together and pray that this Christmas you will also be blessed with family time.
This reminds me so much of my first trip through West Virginia in February of 2003. Being snowed in and setting there having to spend time with family and letting the kids experience snow for the first time was great, though at times it was trying. But we grew closer over those two weeks together. Hope ya’ll have just as memorable experience.
God bless you guys! Have fun in Florida…didn’t know you were heading down there. Merry Christmas! It’s snowing here in Chicago as well. Take care!
I’m sure y’all used the time sitting in traffic wisely. Hope y’all have a safe trip & very merry Christmas!! I guess in Fl. you won’t have much of a chance for a “white Christmas”.
What a Snowrific adventure! I was chatting with Robert & James earlier and heard that a typical 7 hour trip took over 20 hours due to the inclimate weather – spun out tractor trailers, snow banked cars…sounds like a snowonderful memory of a lifetime – just glad to hear you all made it to NC safe and sound.
I appreciate the perspective – how often it is a challenge to make time for the most important over the most urgent.
I love the snow story and the pictures are amazing! Great job and I’m glad to hear you all made it safely. Merry Christmas from the Canadian winter wonderland!
Awww… Hope it all turns out well for you. Have fun with the “quality” family. Times spent trapped in tight quarters often are the most memorable moments! 🙂
Can’t wait to see you in 2 weeks!
That was definitely a snowstorm I will never forget!
As we passed literally hundreds (we counted them) of stuck cars and jack-knifed 18-wheelers, we were reminded of the words in Psalm 91, “A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand, but it shall not come nigh thee…” Praise the Lord for creating a “way” through the
danger in answer to our cry! (Psalm 107).
Believe it or not, while we were stuck there, we met a neighbor from Buffalo Calf! We’ve been looking at the verse “ye are the salt of the earth” and now we had the chance to push a car and give out some food – all things have indeed worked together for good. We are SO grateful for the many who sacrificed their time and comfort to aid in the situation, even though the traffic didn’t know how to cooperate very well.
