Autumn Intricacies
With winter fast approaching and the forest quite bear, I can now present a few of the best pictures that I was able to shoot before autumn completely faded away.
Even though these two picture are a little abstract, I really liked the way they show the changing seasons. To the left, I found the glowing green against crimson red to be very interesting, seeing that they are from two trees of the exact same species.
On the right, you can easily see the green of summer contracted with the orange of fall and the bareness of winter: the forested hillside in the back is all Oak; the tree with changing colors is Sugar Maple; the branch in front is a Black Walnut. Each kind of tree looses their leaves at different times. This image happens to show them all (without, in fact, the use of any computer software).

I clearly remember taking the picture on the left; after a sunny morning of shooting, this was the last picture I took before a heavy cloud cover totally washed out color and contrast. The tree on the right is actually one of the trees in the previous picture, only from a different perspective and under different lighting conditions.

Sitting atop a nearby hillside, this country cemetery offered some nice compositions. Every time we see the dying leaves of fall, we should be reminded that our life is as a vapor, appearing for a little time and then vanishing away. The leaf on the right was one of the only leaves I found with vibrant color, and that only when held up to the early morning sunlight to shine through it.
I found it difficult to find good, colorful, pictures due to the peculiar weather conditions this year. But in the quest to find better images, I expanded my shooting locations, learned to keep a flexible schedule, and spent more time in the field. Thank you Jonathan and David for your eagerness to accompany me on my various exciting, shooting excursions. And thank you, Lord, for creating such a vast variety of intricate subjects to study, capture, and enjoy.
Beautiful pictues James!
It amazes me how God makes even the dying times to be vibrant and pleasant.
Absolutely spectacular! I had no clue you had been able to take so many resplendent pictures this fall, James. Number two ( 🙂 ) shows great singularity, but I think my personal favorite of the group would be either three or five. They are all outstanding, though!
James, each picture has a message. Excellent photography!
I so enjoyed taking those pictures; God is so creative. All I can do is copy it! Your feed-back is great as it helps me guage what people really like.
Just out of curiosity… How long has that cemetery been there? And is it on the Harrison or Doddridge side of Buffalo Calf Ridge? We moved off of Buffalo Calf Rd (the Doddridge side) in January 88, but I just don’t remember that cemetery. Of course that’s been a long time since we left that area.
That’s so neat! We moved in Febrary ’02. The picture of the cemetery was taken behind Mt. Olive Baptist Church on Greenbrier Road. Know where that is? 🙂
